Traffic Squeezer - Citrix ICA protocollo e Reti Citrix intensiva - Ottimizzazione del traffico Citrix ICA

As you know Citrix is one of the most popular and a proven best desktop virtualization solution. An organization (basically a medium and a large enterprise) can deploy a higly effective virtualization desktops for its employees. With which it gives the freedom that employees now can carry their desktop anywhere since it is deployed in the Citrix Servers in their Cloud Networks.

It is proven that this reduces the frequent infrastructure maintenance costs, hardware costs, also issues with purchasing software licenses and installing it in each employee system. Citrix is also effective in case of frequent software/application upgrades, and availability of expensive applications, and so on. Since with Citrix all these can be done somewhere remotely in a Citrix Server, and instead any users connects to these servers via their thin Citrix clients (basically a Citrix client application installed in their laptop or it can be a dedicated Citrix client hardware such as WYSE, and so on) can get access to these rare and expensive applications.

The only major downside of this technology is that the availability of good bandwidth. As one can understand Citrix is more like a Presentation layer as well as Application layer. Hence it is highly interactive, and bursty network traffic. Basically each of your mouse jestures, keyboard keys, and various other GUI aspects are translated into ICA protocol packets and sent across network. Hence it is highly interactive traffic. If you have a low speed WAN link, then usually users may find extremely annoying to use this environment, since each time user types text in keyboard, it takes few seconds to take effect on screen, and the same happens with mouse interactiveness. All these basic interactive GUI features which works perfectly in a simple local PC, will now appear to be more sloppy and sluggish in a Citrix desktop.



Hence with TrafficSqueezer you can fairly optimize this interactive ICA Citrix protocol traffic. We should understand the fact that ICA is already highly optimized in its own context and also efficiently compressed based on the degree, priority and so on. But the role of TrafficSqueezer in Citrix application intensive WAN links can alter this equation of network optimization in a different context. Basically if you have more than one Citrix desktop in a remote branch office connected via WAN, TrafficSqueezer coalescing feature can coalesce packets of various discrete ICA session packets, and optimize and minimize the number of packets travelling across WAN. It is understood that not all Citrix packets will get really compressed with any loss-less compression algorithm of TrafficSqueezer. But this is where again packet Templating feature of TrafficSqueezer can do its own part optimizing traffic of this nature.

Hence in a Citrix intensive WAN links, TrafficSqueezer optimization features such as Packet Templating, and Packet Coalescing, both can further optimize this traffic. Packet Coalescing will reduce the unwanted issues in WAN links, by reducing number or count of packets, by merging or multiplexing packets travelling across same destination. This isolates these new multiplexed packets to have ill effects of IFG inter-frame-gaps, interframe delay scenarios.
